Temporary works is used to describe many things on a project, ranging from cut and batter slopes, excavation retention, working platforms for piling rigs and cranes and access roads.

Appreciation of risk posed by temporary works to the projects has increased across the industry over the last few years. Projects owning authorities and clients have added requirement of proof engineering as well as independent review of majority of the temporary works design. It is due to the reason that failure of temporary works has resulted in injuries, death and significant delays on the projects.

Main reasons of temporary works failure can be:
